• At least four people need to sign up for a class to proceed. Join the waitlist, if very interested in a project. This helps us know whether to run a class again.

This is a 4-week class during which you will learn the basics of knitting – knit, purl, casting on and binding off. You’ll make 2 projects – a simple scarf and a super bulky hat. In this class you’ll learn how to cast on, knit, purl, bind off and follow a simple pattern.

First, you’ll start the scarf on chunky yarn so your stitches will be easy to see and the item will knit up quickly. We’ll also be teaching how to unknit, weave in ends and join new yarn in the middle of your project.

The second project you’ll work on is a super bulky hat that will teach how to knit in the round and incorporate a simple decorative stich pattern. We’ll finish off this quick knit with a pompom!

Whether you're an avid knitter who has never picked up a crochet hook (except for dropped stitches) or never worked with yarn at all, this is a perfect class! In these sessions you'll learn the basics of crochet while creating a scarf.

Techniques include: single, double, half double, and triple crochet, Foundation chain, scalloped edge & pattern reading.

SOPHIE HOOD

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND

The Sophie Hood is worked in one piece from tip to tip. It is worked flat, back and forth, in garter stitch (no purling) with built-in i-cord edges. The hood is shaped using increases and decreases, and its back is sewn together at the end, using a simple mattress stitch along the back of the neck.  

This is an adapted larger version of the original Sophie Scarf – once you learn these techniques, you could easily knit the scarf as well!

Techniques include: increasing, decreasing, i-cord edges, simple seaming.

A cable classic you’ll treasure for years to come. This sweater is the definition of dress to impress. It may seem daunting but Tam will take you step by step through working all those intricate cables and components of this masterpiece.

Section by section, you’ll learn to read complicated charts comfortably, work increases and short rows for a better fit in sleeves and work Italian tubular bind-off for a more polished finish.

Ooey Gooey was the popular design by Andrea Mowry that became the “It” sweater for Rhinebeck in 2025.  Now socks have been added to the ooey gooey family.  We will be working the toe up version of the pattern learning to create a toe cast on with out a seam, turning the heal, knitting with 2 colors and a stretchy cast off. We will use the Magic Loop method.  [Note: Double points or 2 cable needles are options if you already know the technique.]

This snug little scarf is full of cables and ribbing and features a keyhole opening so it will stay close and cozy around your neck. This is great way to master cables and even learn to knit them without a cable needle. It’s made with worsted weight yarn and comes in 3 sizes.

SEVERNSIDE MITTENS

The design for these lovely mittens was inspired by the River Severn which is the longest river in Great Britain. The cables are meant to mimic the river’s winding path and are set between twisted stitches, symbolizing the steady banks that guide the river.

The mittens are worked in DK weight yarn and feature a folded ribbed cuff and directions for right- and left-hand mittens. You’ll learn to read charts and make small circumference tubes with 2 circular needles.

The Porcelain sweater is a modern take on classic Scandinavian motifs. Worked top down,

Tam will take you through the short rows in the upper back, picking up stitches, working 2-handed stranded colorwork on both the knit and purl side and finishing with an italian tubular bind-off. This oversized sweater is a statement show piece.

KEJSAR HAT

This beautiful hat is worked in sport weight yarn and features a double folded cuffed brim and 3 different cables. It’s knitted bottom up with a tubular cast on which results in a smooth, professional edge. The cables are worked from charts and the hat comes in 3 sizes. Although it’s worked with light weight yarn the cables and folded cuff will provide lots of warmth and coziness in the coldest weather.

Techniques include: tubular cast on, charts, knitting in the round, deceasing, knitting small circumference tubes with 2 circular needles

PRISM BLANKET

This eye-catching blanket is made with simple garter stitch squares that are fashioned with increases and then decreases, adding a color change halfway through. Each bias- knitted block is knitted individually and neighboring squares are picked up and connected as you make them, thus “building” the blanket in one piece. There are no seams! The blanket can be made in sport, DK or worsted weight yarn and it can be made in any size, from a full-sized throw to a smaller baby blanket.

Knitted in DK weight yarn, this fast knit is sure to be a favorite of new moms. It comes in sizes 0-3 mos. to 18 mos. Buttons on one side of the raglan line make dressing the baby a bit easier, and edges are ribbed. You can use self-striping, variegated or solid yarn, adding custom stripes as an option (in photo.) Add 2 cute buttons and you’re done!
