You can also call the shop 973-377-5648 (KNIT) with payment or come in :) If you have a problem signing up please email us at info@thebluepurl.com with your phone number and we will assist you, or put you on the waitlist. We are keeping the same phone number but best to email.

  • Refunds for cancellations available only 72 hours before first class.

  • If a class is full, please email or call us to be put on the waitlist. Cancellations often occur.

  • We require you buy your supplies through The Blue Purl. Help us keep the lights on. Check out our online shop! Or stop in and we will help you. Thank you :)

  • At least four people need to sign up for a class to proceed. Join the waitlist, if very interested in a project. This helps us know whether to run a class again.

LEARN TO KNIT

For very beginners move through the 3 step sequence. If you know how to cast on, knit and purl jump in where appropriate :)

This is a 4-week class during which you will learn the fundamentals of knitting – knit, purl, casting on and binding off. You’ll learn the basics while practicing the different techniques and then you’ll make a super cute, super bulky hat that will teach how to knit in the round and incorporate a simple decorative stich pattern. We’ll finish off this quick knit with a pompom! Come and join us and begin your knitting adventure!

Whether you're an avid knitter who has never picked up a crochet hook (except for dropped stitches) or never worked with yarn at all, this is a perfect class! In these sessions you'll learn the basics of crochet while creating a scarf.

Techniques include: single, double, half double, and triple crochet, Foundation chain, scalloped edge & pattern reading.

The Sabai Top is a lightweight summer top with cut-in shoulders and a boat neckline. It is worked seamlessly from the top down, beginning with the neck border in the round. The front and back are then separated and knitted individually down to the armholes.

Once the armhole shaping is completed the front and back are again joined together to knit the body in the round down to the hem. The pattern comes in 6 sizes, from XS to XXL.

Techniques – left- and right-leaning knitted and purled increases, knitting in the round

Swaddle Pals (we will be doing Volume 1) is a sweet little collection of animal friends that are fairly simple and quick to make. They are the perfect little taste of toy knitting all wrapped up in a squishy swaddle of garter stitch. These are for gifting, keeping, loving, squeezing, wrapping, unwrapping… so much simple fun! Swaddle Pals Vol. 1 includes a bunny, kitten, lion and bear and there is also Volume 2 with a koala, puppy, birdie and piglet.

Techniques include: knitting small circumference tubes on 2 circular needles, kitchener stitch, i-cord, picking up stitches

This simple little scarf is an elegant accessory to add for the perfect finish to your spring outfits.  It’s made in sport/DK weight yarn and comes in 2 lengths. It’s a one-skein project that will work up quickly and will be a favorite to keep or give as a gift!

Babcia is a delicate reversible lace shawl, scarf or bandana. It can be worn around the neck, over the shoulders, into the hair, … It can be made in any weight yarn and will turn out larger or smaller, depending on the yarn and needles you use. It’s knitted from the point up, making it easy to adjust the size to your desired dimensions or the amount of yarn you have. The repetitive lace stitch requires concentration but is easy (and fun) to knit (knit and purl stitches, yarn overs, decreases). The stitch pattern is provided in both written form and as a chart.

Techniques include: chart reading, increases, decreases, yarnovers.

This is a light weight top that is worked seamlessly from the top down. The yoke is worked in ribbing in the round with increases down to the armholes. In classic top-down style, the body and sleeves are then separated and worked individually in stockinette stitch. Please note that the sleeves can be made a bit longer if you prefer. This is a perfect project to make as your first sweater!

Has this ever happened? It’s Sunday and you’re happily knitting and then you drop a stitch, try to fix it, and drop another, it opens a hole and Yikes! The shop is not open until Tuesday!!! No more. Learning the mechanics of knitting will give you the confidence to correct mistakes.

Learn to fix this and more:
- Picking up dropped stitches on both garter and stockinette
- Untwisting Stitches - What is the Leading Edge?
- Using a Life Line to avoid ripping out to the first stitch
- How to avoid knitting in the wrong direction and how to fix the mistake
- Accidentally creating extra stitches on the edges

Homework:
With the yarn and needles of your choosing (light color), create 2 swatches (20 stitches and 10 rows) before class, such as:
- One stockinette swatch, leave on a needle 
- One garter stitch swatch, place on a stitch holder

Bring to Class:
- Size E or F crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Safety-pin style stitch markers
- Yarn and needles

This blanket is a fun, interesting and rewarding project. The pattern for the class is found in the booklet called Building Blocks by Michelle Hunter. It includes the patterns for 12 blocks, each made with a different stitch pattern, which will then be sewn together to make a blanket. In this first session of the class we will make 6 blocks, and in the next 6-class session, we will make the final 6 blocks. The stitch patterns will give you a great introduction to many different skills, which you can then put to good use in future projects!

Techniques include: simple chart reading, cables, simple lace, increases, decreases, bobbles and more!

Toss in your towel, book, sunglasses, water, and sunscreen and head for the beach! This roomy beach bag has a linen stitch base for sturdiness, an I-cord edged strap for strength, and a bit of lace, texture, and color to make it fun to knit! The base is worked flat, then stitches are picked up on the other 3 sides so that the body of the bag can beworked in the round. The strap is worked from one side and then joined at the other side with a 3-needle bind-off.

Techniques include: Knitting in the round, chart reading, i-cord edging, slip stitches, increases, decreases
