Fall 2019 List of Classes

Here are the upcoming classes. To sign up for a class please call the shop or come in: 973-377-5648 (KNIT) If classes are sold out you can leave your name on a waiting list. After approval (to make sure the class is not full) we will send you a link where you can pay by PayPal or please come in before the start of class. Classes must be paid up to 72 hours before they begin - or if canceling up to 72 hours for refund.
If you have a private group of 6 or more and would like your own class please inquire and we’ll try to make it happen!

 
 

Final Class - Skep Finishing - Putting it Together

Level: Beginner; This is for students of the Skep Class in the summer.

If you have 12 hex’s done you will be able to begin putting the blanket together. If not, come and join and take notes!

This class will set you on your way to becoming a crocheter! It’s a great refresher for those who want to pick it up again. You will have a beautiful piece at the end.

Skills: You will learn the basic of crochet, basic (and a couple not so basic) stitches, how to read a pattern, increasing and decreasing, picot edge
Supplies: 270 yd worsted weight, size G hook. Can use gradient yarn. Pattern is free and will be provided or look for it on Ravelry.

Golf Club Covers - NEW!

These golf covers are great for your set of clubs or a fantastic gift for the golfers in your life. Choose your favorite colors.

Techniques: Different stitch patterns, each club is a bit different so there is a new stitch to learn, also, working on 2 circular needles, knitting in round, simple color-work, increasing/decreasing.

Are you a beginner who's never knitted a stitch but wants to join in the fun? In this four-session class you'll learn the basics of knitting, purling, casting on and binding off, increasing and decreasing, and more, all while creating a simple change purse.

Andrea Mowry’s Shift patterns have been extremely popular this past year. “A fun and engaging knit with shifting colors, that looks like an asymmetrical triangle shawl” The yarn is color sequenced and needs to be purchased before class begins - we can help!

Techniques: Slipstitch, Mosaic color-work, i-cord bind off, bias shaping, simple seam

Much of the work of ARNE & CARLOS is influenced by Norway’s rich textile heritage, which they reimagine using both classic and contemporary colourways. This geometric pattern can be used with a plain cushion back. This color-work is done with Rowan's Softyak DK

Weatherbe Cowl - NEW!

“An I-cord drawstring with leather tabs is a simple addition to this cozy cabled cowl. With a provisional cast on, Weatherbe, is worked flat and joined at the end with a Kitchener Stitch. This also gives the cowl a great horizontal cable pattern. The combination of height and the drape of the fiber allows Weatherbe to bunch in warm folds around your neck.”

Basic Series - Socks

Level:  Advanced beginner, assumes familiarity with working in the round as well as confidence and proficiency in basic knitting skills.

These cute roll-top or ribbed ankle socks are perfect for knitting and wearing. They're knit from the top down, with a traditional heel flap and heel turn. There will be size options as well as the choice of fingering or worsted weight yarn. This is a great class for new sock knitters and a fun knit for those looking for a refresher or to work on thinner yarn.  Needle options for working in the round will be covered in this class, and the pattern will be provided.

Tunisian Crochet - Scarf/Pillow or Throw - NEW!

Learn Tunisian crochet! Carolyn will teach us different stitches to make blocks which can be made into a scarf, pillow, or continue on to make a throw.

We’ll be using worsted yarn and a “L” Tunisian hook.

Tech Class - Fixing Mistakes

Dropped a stitch? Purled when you should have knit? Need to rip back a row of K2togs? It happens to all of us, and can stop even the most seasoned knitter in her/his tracks! Never fear - we'll show you how to recognize and fix a number of common knitting mistakes quickly and easily*. "Tinking" and undoing bind off rows will also be covered. Advance preparation of swatches is required. (*after practice, that is!)

Christmas Stocking with Keri

Offered again by popular demand!  In this class you will be designing and creating an original Christmas stocking in plenty of time for the holiday.  Choose from a wide range of motifs and combine any number of colors of worsted weight yarn to create a new family heirloom! 

Techniques: stranded color-work, after-thought heel, Kitchener stitch, working from charts, the 16 color charts can be mixed and matched.

Felted Clogs

Felted clog/slippers knit holding double yarn. This creates a very thick, firm fabric when felted, and features double soles for longer wear.

Techniques include: knitting in the round, short rows, and felting.

You can choose to knit either a throw or a cushion and there are four cushion options and so you’ll be spoilt for choice! Each design uses combinations of four textured squares. You can add beads to this project if you wish,

Sometimes winter catches you by surprise and you need a pair of mittens, asap! Don't let that happen this year - get an early start on winter (and holidays?!?) with this class.The World's Simplest Mittens are a perfect introduction to mittens or a blank canvas for mitten fun! Choose your size (baby to adult), yarn (thick or thin) and needles and we will get you started.

The tubular cast-on is very stretchy, useful for socks, mittens, gloves, and hats. The edge looks rolled over; it seems to have no visible beginning, so it’s good for hats and cuffs.

Class sizes are limited to allow for personal instruction. Paid reservations are required and class spots are filled on a first come first served basis; we will begin a waiting list if necessary, and add additional classes where possible. Call or stop in to reserve your spot. Please call the shop and speak to us if you have to cancel your reservation; phone messages do not serve as official notice. Students signing up for a multi session class must sign up for the entire session; we do not prorate. A class may be canceled if a minimum number of students have not signed up. In that case you will be contacted and payment will be refunded. If a class session must be canceled due to weather or other unforeseen complication every effort will be made to contact students and to reschedule.
