Level: advanced beginner - must know how to crochet
Dates: Thursday's Nov 7, 14, 21: 7-9pm
Teacher Carolyn Hanson

Have you ever just wanted to burst out in song? Be free from rules and guidelines? Use the hook size you want and the yarn you want? Then Freeform Crochet is calling you.

Freeform Crochet is completely free of form and design. Freeform uses multiple yarns, in various colors, weights and texture to make to build odd shapes called “scrumbles”. Scrumbles have no real shape or size…think ameba the size of your outstretched hand. Many scrumbles can woven together to form garments, shawls, scarves, hats or anything you can create with a pattern or simply added as an embellishment to another project. The class will focus on technique. How to build a scrumble from a basic shape. Learn how to make bullions, surface crochet (crochet embroidery), swirls in two colors and more. Students are asked to bring in crochet hooks of all sizes (and knitting needles if you knit) and yarn of any kind.

Carolyn will teach techniques on how to make little shapes, and how to crochet these forms together as in the shawl she made pictured above.

To see more freeform crochet, check out Prudence Mapstone. Her work is featured in museums and workshops around the globe.
